The Third International Conference on High Energy Density Physics is held in South University of Science and Technology, Shenzhen, from September 24 through September 26. Participants include twenty international renowned scholars from the US, UK, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Japan, Australia and Czech Republic. There are over one hundred and forty domestic participants.

The conference is organized by the Center for Applied Physics and Technology (CAPT), MoE Key Laboratory for High Energy Density Physics Simulations (HEDPS), and co-organized by South University of Science and Technology (SUST). It is chaired by Professor Xian-Tu He, Professor Shi-Yi Chen, and co-chaired by Professor Jie Zhang, Professor Wei-Yan Zhang.

Professor Xian-Tu He, director of CAPT, hosted the ceremony. Distinguished guests from China Academy of Engineering Physics (CAEP), Peking University (PKU), South University of Science and Technology (SUST), and Beijing Institute of Applied Physics and Computational Mathematics (IAPCM) attended the opening ceremony. Professor Shi-Yi Chen - president of SUST, Professor Xin-Cheng Xie - dean of the School of Physics of PKU, and Professor Chikang Li - senior scientist from MIT addressed in the ceremony.

After the first and second ICHEDP being successfully held in PKU, this third ICHEDP continually aimed at scientific frontier field of High Energy Density Physics. The main themes of this conference cover Matter Properties under High Energy Density Conditions; Laser Matter Interaction; Laboratory Astrophysics; Inertial Confinement Fusion; Compressible Turbulence and Hydrodynamic Instabilities; and Strong Field Physics. During the three days, there were 84 oral talks and 20 posters reported in the conference.

This is a pioneering attempt that first time ICHEDP being held in such a young innovative university, which believed to promote international communication and collaboration on science, and attract juvenile scholars to endeavor in HEDP field, under this wonderful platform, thus, impelling the development of HEDP science and contributing to national vital scientific project, can be expected soon.

Professor He noted that along with the booming development of HEDP subject, this international conference will surely promote HEDP studies in China, and expand international influences of Chinese scientists in this field. It will provide more opportunities for Chinese scientists to step farther in the international platform, and help them to achieve high-level academic outcomes and research abilities.
