The 2nd International Conference on High Energy Density Physics (ICHEDPS) will be held in September

The 2nd International Conference on High Energy Density Physics, organized by the Centre for Applied Physics and Technology (CAPT) is to be held in Peking University, Beijing, China from Sept. 21 to Sept. 24, 2014. The presidium of the organizing committee for this conference includes: Xian-Tu He (Academician of Chinese Academy of Science & Director of Centre for Applied Physics and Technology at Peking University), Shiyi Chen (Academician of Chinese Academy of Science & Vice president of Peking University, China), Jie Zhang (Academician of Chinese Academy of Science & President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China), and Weiyan Zhang (Academician of Chinese Academy of Science & Vice president of Chinese Academy of Engineering Physics).

The principal topics for this conference are in keeping with the first international conference in 2012. Especially including: --Inertial Confinement Fusion Physics and Radiation Hydrodynamic; --Matter Properties under HEDP conditions, especially under Warm Dense conditions; --Particle acceleration, Relativistic Laser Plasma Physics and Atomic Dynamics in Strong Laser Field; --Laboratory Astrophysics; --High Mach number compressible turbulence and hydrodynamic instabilities; --Numerical simulation methods for HEDP.

This conference invites many respected physicists to attend; now the speakers in our confirmed list are: Farhat Beg (University of California, San Diego, US), Thomas Cowan (GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung GmbH, Germany), R. Paul Drake (University of Michigan, US), C. S. Liu (University of Maryland, US), Jiaer Chen (Academician of the Chinese Academy of Science), Xian-Tu He, Shiyi Chen, Jie Zhang, Weiyan Zhang, etc. High energy density physics is significant for the ICF research. It is also the chief discipline which the cutting-edge research and students cultivation focus on by CAPT.

Furthermore, an anticipated, high-end talk called ‘Hong-Men Talk’ will be held before the conference with the support of the Graduate School of Peking University. The host will invite Prof. C. S. Liu (University of Maryland, US), Prof. Xian-Tu He (Chinese Academy of Engineering Science), Prof. Side Hu (Chinese Academy of Engineering Science), and other highly respected scholars who have been devoted to the fusion research for several decades. The talk will cover the development of fusion science and technology, the contributions to the fusion science made by the Chinese scientists at home and abroad. Moreover, the invited professors will exchange ideas with the graduates and young scholars face to face.
