Numerical Relativity and Double Black Hole Simulation

Reporter: Prof. Zhoujian Cao (Academy of Mathematics & Systems Science, CAS)

Conference Chairperson: Wei Kang (Distinguished research fellow)

Time: 8th April, 2014, Tue. 12:10-14:00pm

Venue: Academic Report Hall (Room 210), No.1 Building, College of Engineering

Report Introduction:

With the pervasive research in Compact Object such as Black Hole and Neutron Stars, the application of General Relativity becomes usual in Physics. The continued development of Gravitational Wave facilitates the Numerical Solution of Einstein's equations to be the new orientation for General Relativity. That is the Numerical Relativity. This report will introduce the task, difficulty and prospect of this research. Particularly, the methods and outcomes of the Double Black Hole Simulation, as well as the impact on Gravitational Wave will also be introduced.

Speaker:

Dr. Cao graduated from Beijing Normal University (BNU), researched on General Relativity and the fields of large-scale scientific calculation: Aiming at ventricular fibrillation, proposes spatiotemporal chaos control method of small-signal operation theoretically. Generalizing the left-handed medium to the pattern system of nonlinearity chemical reaction from linear optical system. Based on the needs of Gravitational Wave detection, developing the related theories and computing method, establishing a whole set of numeral calculation and analytic program library for Black Hole System.
